CANDIDATE’S POSITIONS
The Economy
Mr. Gubics understands the need for a sound fiscal policy. A nation whose economy is based on a robust fair exchange of goods and services is critical to job promotion and national security.
Ed does not support Free Trade; he does support Fair Trade. We need to give our workers a chance by leveling the playing field and treating our trading partners in the same manner that they treat us. When the rules are fair, our workers cannot be beat.
Energy Issues
Energy availability affects our economy and security. America is too dependent on imported oil and I support energy independence. Alternative energies will help us decrease our dependence on foreign oil, decrease our energy costs and increase our national security as well as create more jobs
Edward Gubics supports the “Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less” initiative that would allow Americans to pay less at the gas pump. Ed would like to limit the amount of foreign oil imported into the United States. That’s why we need to use all the American resources to lower gasoline price. Congressional records indicate that, on May 18, 2006, Representative Kilpatrick voted against drilling for oil on the Florida coast.
Taxes
Ed supports the fair tax proposal that would eliminate the income tax for every American. Under the Fair Tax system, the federal income tax would be replaced by a national sales tax. This would allow hardworking Americans such as the citizens of Detroit, Harper Woods, all of the Grosse Pointes, Wyandotte, Lincoln Park, River Rouge, and Ecorse to keep more of the money that they have earned.
The National Taxpayers Union gave Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick a grade of F in 2007 regarding taxpayer’s interest.
Gun Ownership
Ed Gubics supports the second amendment; the right to keep and bear arms. Ed is an Endowment Level Life Member of the National Rifle Association. Ed strongly supports the recent Supreme Court decision in the Heller vs. D.C. case. This decision validates an individual’s right to keep firearms.
Not so with Ms. Kilpatrick. She recently voted against repealing D.C.’s unlawful gun ban. In spite of our clear constitutional guarantee Ms. Kilpatrick believes that the government should decide whether or not law-abiding citizens may own guns.
Stem Cell Research
Ed believes in the sanctity of all human life, born and unborn. Ed opposes the use of embryonic stem cells, a procedure that destroys the living embryo. Despite decades of research around the planet Embryonic Stem Cell Research has not yielded any medical treatments. Almost ninety medical treatments have been developed using Adult Stem Cells, however. Continuing to fund ESCR facilitates killing humans and takes money away from Adult Stem Cell Research programs that have a much better chance at advancing medicine.
Ms. Kilpatrick voted in favor of using our tax dollars for embryonic stem cell research
On Running For Congress
Edward Gubics has had many requests to fill out questionnaires after announcing his candidacy for U.S. House of Representatives, MI-13. Below are his responses to the request from WWJ Newsradio and T.V.
Q: What are your professional qualifications for the office you seek?
A: I have no prior experience running for elected office although I have about as much experience as our Founding Fathers had, 230 years ago and they did a great job. I am an ‘average joe’ who is dissatisfied with the present state of affairs in our local, state, and federal governments and I cannot sit on the sidelines any longer. I have a strong sense of right versus wrong and, as a life-long resident of the 13th Congressional District, a deep commitment to improving our condition in southeast Michigan.
Q: What issue is most important to you and your campaign?
A: All issues are important to me, especially the economy/taxes, health care, education, Right-To-Life issues from conception to last natural breath, and the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
Q: How will your community benefit from your leadership?
A: People in my community will be able to hold their heads up high again, and not be the butt of jokes from late-night talk show hosts because Integrity, Morality, Values, Hard Work, and Intelligence will be the hallmarks of my office. After my first two-year term I will likely have detractors but no one will be able to say that I did not put my constituents first, that I lacked decorum, that I did not show up for votes, that I had an entitlement mentality, or that there was an ‘Edward Gubics Friends & Family Plan’.
Q: What plans do you have to keep your community moving forward?
A: Presently, my community is not moving forward; it is moving backwards. I plan to stop this backward slide and reverse its course. I will support (and introduce) legislation that will bring jobs to our community, to lower taxes, and give my constituents their moneys-worth in government. I will work to ensure that everyone has access to healthcare and to competent educational systems. I will work to defend all of my constituents; not just likely voters or registered voters but every U.S. citizen in our district. And I will fight for the right of the citizens of our country to defend themselves and not become sitting ducks in their own homes or on the streets, consistent with the Constitution of the United States of America.
Q: What is your favorite Detroit Sport Team?…Pistons! Red Wings! Lions! Tigers!
A: Wow; the Detroit Shock is conspicuously absent from the list to choose from, although I still have to go with ‘Da Wings’. Go Wings!
